A disappointing fifth place for the B Team in a shambolic match at Parliament Hill.
It was a joint fixture and the host club had a totally different timetable to the visiting teams which, despite our protests, they were advised by the Divisional Secretary that they had to stick to. The early track events started 30-50 minutes early, which gave athletes no time to prepare, and later distance events started anything from 60-80 minutes early. We managed to get most people there in time, but many had to go straight into the race with no warm up. Don't get me started, I've sent in my complaint and I'm waiting for a response. Maybe we'll employ the same tactic at our next home match.
Despite all this, there were some really good performances and we were only last because of the high standard and the closeness of the match. Jon Browne and Sam Chappell set new B Team records in the 400m and Hammer respectively, and Hassan Davis won Man of the Match for an afternoon of pb's. Someone should knock him around the head more often. Perhaps the most surprising result of the day was the 9 points that Leon and Ricardo got us in the javelin; roughly 7 points more than we were expecting. We also benefited from a small number of A Team athletes such as James, Andrew and Rich, which makes a huge difference to our generally very young team.
Results, updated records and latest league table are attached. Just to add to the general confusion of the day, the league table I got sent had us in fourth on 105 points. I'm certain this is wrong and so the table attached is the one I think is right. Whatever the case, we're mired in a relegation dogfight (to quote Mick McCarthy in about six months time) and we're going to need people to step forward and do the right thing on 11th July at Woking.
I was going to send this round after lunch, by the way, but decided to bring it forward two hours ... Rob
