The indoor season has started very well for Kent AC sprinters. A pb for Jonathan Brown in his first outing this season and 3 medals at the South of England Champs. New sprinter, or should I say our model, Ricardo Martin made his indoor debut. He now knows not to disappear to the toilet just before your race. He nearly missed his race, and just made it with seconds spare, as I begged the officials to allow him to race. He didn't even have time to put his blocks in and ran with his tights still on. This is the South of England champs mate!!!
Matthew Burton wasn't best pleased with his run-up and jumps. I hope being the next jumper after Philips Odowu's didn't have an effect. Philips won the triple jump with just over 17m in his 1st outing of 2008. Rudi Francis turned up to race with not much training and missed the final by a few places. Jonathan Brown made the Q/F and was unlucky to miss a semi-final place. Aaron Broderick also made his 200m indoors debut. In the 200m final, Jonathan Brown was kicking himself for not entering as Conrad in lane 4 chasing down Jeffrey Lawal-Balogun in lane 5. Jeffrey was more concern about Tim Abeyie in lane 6 and don't forget Danny Doyle in lane 1.
The high jump was a very classy competition with at least 3 people over 2.20m, Martin Lloyd was 4th with 2.15m. The U20 also produced some quality results with the winner clearing 2.00m, Antoni Davis-Phillips coming only 8th with 1.85m personal best jump. An excellent win for Albert Johnson in the shot.
