Kent AC made a brilliant start to the Track League season on Saturday (5 May). The British League team came 2nd in Cardiff, while the B team came 3rd in The Southern League Division 1 fixture at Highgate. Elsewhere, Garry Thornton broke the club's long standing 10,000m record in Bedford at the British University Champs in 29min 30 sec.
Third place for the B Team at Parliament Hill on Saturday, an excellent start to life in Division 1. If we can manage a couple more of those, then mid-table obscurity is truly within our grasp.
After much deliberation, Man of the Match was awarded to Rudy Francis for his nine points and two pb's (100/110h) from two events. A close second was Matthew Wekpe, who looks like he's following in Jeffrey's footsteps with nine points and one pb (200) in his first match. Just to prove my theory that training has no effect on performance at all, Tashan set a new best in the high jump and Shane picked up loads of points as usual. Trevor's new training regime of jogging half a mile to the station every morning looks like it's paid off too. The 4x400m squad (average age: 12) has real potential if only they'd stop turning up every Tuesday and Thursday.
Thanks to all athletes, guests and officials, who made sure we had our usual strength in numbers. Next up, the playing fields of Eton on the 19th.
