A small group of young athletes gave a good account of themselves at Capstone Park. In the under 15's David Rowbotham came home 15th in what was a very strong field. David had a bad patch in the middle of the race but as usual came through strongly in the closing stages. In the under 17's Alfie Grimsey showed how much he has improved since last season, coming home home 4th after battling it out for most of the race with the 2nd and 3rd placers. George Quinn followed his good showing at Aldershot the previous week with an impressive 7th place. In the under 20's Theo Hadlow came in 10th followed by Peter Clarke in 12th.
We had just three representatives in the men's race. Lee Haze running his first cross country race for a couple of years came home in a creditable 46th place. He was closely followed by debutant Matt Ponting who was 50th after only just making it to the start line on time. Our third finisher in 80th was a regular at Kent Leagues, Adam Morton. Adam deserves special praise for giving me a lift home - thus avoiding the delights of early evening at Gillingham station.
