This Saturday saw the last of the Kent Leagues junior fixtures before the county championship in January. In the under 17 race it was evident from the start that the onset of a cold/flu type virus was going to take its toll on Alfie. Despite clearly being under the weather, Alfie Grimsey still managed a very creditable 5th position which meant he easily held on to his second position in the overall standings. He was awarded with a commemorative shield for his efforts. ( picture courtesy of Pete B).
Alfie was followed in by George Quinn who has been a model of consistency in the race series. He was 8th today which meant he finished 5th in the overall standings. George was also first under 11 boy which augurs well for next year's competition. We managed to close in an under 20's team today. First home was Hassan Davis in 5th position - a good performance on seemingly little training. He was followed by Theo Hadlow in 8th position and a commendable run by Ahmed making his debut at cross country in 10th.
As usual our seniors preferred to be elsewhere and so just three runners put in an appearance. The dependable Bernie Hutchinson was first home in 66th. Followed by Matt making his debut somewhat handicapped by the lack of spikes in 88th. Ted Hadlow battled it out with fellow vets and came home 114.
Lets hope for a good turn out at the County on the 10th of January where we can show that we can still be a force to be reckoned with.
