The Southern road relays are on Sat 27th Sept. Book in diaries. It is Aldershot as usual. We're looking for a strong M40 and M50 teams, so Luke says no excuses. It would be good if you could race either assembley league at beckenham or club 5000m so the selectors can have a look at current form.
The winter season is soon approaching us. It's that time when the men of Kent AC once again need to stand up and be counted. The summer has gone exceptionally well for the club with the 'A' track & field team reaching their highest ever finish in the British League. It would be great if we can carry that success over to the cross country and road, and show that the endurance athletes can also achieve success to match that of the 'speedsters' of the track.
Whether you are running for fitness, or have an aim such as the London Marathon in April, there are a number of races on our calendar that can help you achieve your goal. I have highlighted the races from the fixtures list (attached) and split them into League and Championship (below). Just because the race is a championship it does not mean that you will be out of your depth. Many athletes take part in races such as the South of England cross country as a social event. You just need to look at the likes of Herne Hill who do this with great success and have finished in the top 5 in the South of England in recent years. The advantage of having more runners in the race is that we have more chances to make that 6 or 9 or 12 to score team. There is also a better atmosphere at the local pub after!
There are 6 key races in the winter for the club, three before Christmas and 3 after. Please can you put these into your diary and make yourself available for these if nothing else, particularly as 5 are in London:
15th Nov South Thames 5 mile race - Wimbledon
22nd Nov London Champs 10K / 6.2 miles - Parliament Hill
20th Dec South Thames 7.5 mile race - Lloyd park - Croydon
3rd Jan County Champs 7.5 mile race - Detling show ground
24th Jan Southern Champs 9 mile race - Hillingdon (A Marathon Man Must)
21st Feb National Champs 7.5 mile race - Parliament Hill
