DetailsWoking, Surrey. B Team T+F match Southern League Division 1
Event typeT+F

Evening all. Fourth place for the B team at Woking. Once again, lots of excellent performances and, in a tough match, we were only six points off second place. Noteworthy performances included Kent AC athletes winning the first three track events of the day, all at 400m hurdles with the third being a pb for Quazar running as a guest in the Division Three match.

Ahmed also ran an excellent pb in the 800m, and Joe set a new B team record in the 110m hurdles by half a second. I'm not a sprinter, but even I know that half a second is a lot. Talking of sprinters, it was good to see us filling non-scoring races in the 100m and 200m at an away match.

Man of the Match went to Phil Sanders, who ran a pb in the 5000m and then borrowed my spikes to make his debut in the steeplechase when we needed the points. Style Icon of the Match went to Andy Sellars for his retro Kent AC running vest, which has been in and out of fashion at least three times since he bought it. (It's currently back in).

If only we had a bigger pool of throwers, we'd be holding our own this season comfortably. The reality, however, is that it's all lined up for a relegation shoot out at Tonbridge on 1st August (although it may get moved to the Sunday if Setanta decide to cover it. That was a joke, by the way). We're up against three teams just below us in the League - Tonbridge, Chelmsford, Swindon - and mid-table Brighton. You can ponder all of the potential scenarios and ramifications using the attached documents. Unless I'm very much mistaken, a third place will definitely be good enough to keep us up unless North Devon win their match.

As always, if you want to compete and help us to safety, now's the time to let me know.
