Well done to all those who made Saturdays race at Wimbledon Common. We managed to show how strong a team we are against a few of the Surrey League big guns (Belgrave, Herne Hill and Thames hare & Hounds - All division 1 in Surrey League).
Our 6 to score team were just pipped at the post by the hosts Belgrave, where we fell short of gold by a mere 9 points, never the less, silver medals are a great result! Performance of the day has to go to Andy Moreton, who was our 4th scorer in 25th position. Andy had also been out to quite a few Christmas parties the last week and also the night before! (if that is the key, I must start drinking more!).
We were also awarded second place in the 12 to score competition behind Herne Hill Harriers. Below are the finishers and positions
4th John Gilbert
6th James Connor
20th Mike Claff
25th Andy Moreton
27th Andrew Dunwoody
32nd Rich Munn
33rd Phil Sanders
46th Lee Haze
47th Graeme Garner
69th Calum Fraser
124th Pete Boxshall
146th Ted Hadlow
147th Adrian Musson
This race also doubled up as our club championships. Congratulations to John for winning this event and also recovering from a fall halfway through the race. John will be a great addition to the team this year and hopefully will help our push for a medal's at the county and the southern in January.
The next race is the County champs at Detling on 9th January.
I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a happy new year (if I don't see you at the track)
Many thanks
James
After 4 successive team wins our run had to end sometime! At a snowbound Wimbledon Common a slightly weaker team than in other races this year came within just 9 points of winning this historic race for the first time in the club's history. None the less Silver medals in this 6 to score competition was our best ever placing in this race after a 100 years of trying!
New boy John Gilbert can count himself unlucky not to get an Individual medal after falling badly on the last lap when vying for 3rd place, yet he hung on well for 4th place. Captain James Connor had to hang onto 6th place after a very fast start but he had good backing from Michael Claff, in 20th , and Andy Moreton ,who had the run of the day to come home 25th. Andrew Dunwoody,on a come back trail, and Rich Munn in 27th and 32nd positions closed our scoring team.
We also came Second in the 12 to score event and our disappointment at achieving what is was our best ever result shows just how far our Cross Country section has improved recently.
