New boys to the league Kent AC overwhelmed the opposition by placing 6 men in the first 7 positions held in summerlike conditions on the firm lawnlike conditions at Cranford Park, Middlesex.
Sam Coombes, in his first race in a year ravished by injury, set off at "tempo pace" together with teammate James Connor who also has had injury problems recently in his buildup to the Frankfurt Marathon. Coombes then eased away on the second lap to win by 50m to seal a fine start to what he hopes will be a big improvement to his 800m PB in 2010. Connor was also pleased to come through unscathed and as joint Team Manager was "really pleased with all our new guys and old hands".
The other new team to the league, Croydon Harriers, also performed well and secured a solid second place on the day.
Kent AC would have won the Div 3 race, held jointly, and look more than likely to secure them successive promotions in the next few years.
