WHAT A TURN AROUND

After the near disaster in their last British League match in Sheffield where it appeared to be a warzone, as so many athletes pulled out early in the match meaning that we only had 14 athletes left standing by the end, Kent AC's ability to bounce back from adversity was clearly demonstrated as the A team amazingly WON their next match !

Despite the match taking place at our local rival's home, Norman Park in Bromley, we showed clearly who is S London's top team with a string of great performances including a new Club Record in the Javelin of 63.86m from our Man of the Match, Max Hall, who also gained vital points in the B Long Jump, A 110m Hurdles and ran a great leg in the 4x100m Relay as a well coached scratch team took 3rd place beating other teams full of specialist sprinters. With Double wins in the 5000m from England International Nick Torry - with a great new PB of 14 min 41sec and GB International Ben Tickner coupled with another pair of wins in the Javelin from Max, a GB Under 20 International, and Polish International, Dom Sadowski, plus near maximum points in the Shot from Irish International, Sean Breathnach and England Schools Champion, Dan Brunsden we moved from 4th place to lead the match.

Backed up by another A string win from GB U23 International Matt Burton with a jump of 7.52m in the Long Jump coupled with a fighting performance from N Ireland Champion, Andrew Dunwoody, who clawed his way from 4th to 1st in the B string 3000m Steeplechase we scored massive points in nearly half of the events. Further good points were produced by GB International, Jermaine Mays, in the 800m and 1500m, Southern Champion Ben Wiffen in the same events and Darren Green who produced a new PB of 21.59sec as he came 2nd in a high standard A 200m race.

With Jack Green, just back from the World Junior Champs in Canada where he ran 5 races in 5 days coming 5th in the 400m Hurdles and a Bronze medal in the 4x400m as he anchored them with a stunning leg of 45.5secs, also producing a PB in the 200m despite his legs being 'shot to pieces' morale was sky high. Finally yet another PB of 48.25sec came from Lawrence Wooldridge in the 400m to seal a great day for Kent AC.

The team now move into 3rd place in Div 1 of the British League, maintaining their status as No. 11 club in GB, and with their 2 GB representatives, Jeffrey Lawal-Balogun and Condad Williams, back from the European Champs in Barcelona and available Kent AC are looking to demolish the opposition in the last match in Liverpool and finish the season on a high note.
