Yet another good day for Kent AC over the ‘country’ this season as our younger athletes really performed well in this annual test of where they are on the London wide Schools scene. With places at stake for the top 8 in each race to represent London in the prestigious English Schools CC champs in March this is often the big race of the year for our younger distance men.

In the Senior Race George Quinn produced his best race of the year over a very wet and testing course to come home in 5th place after a real battle with the 4 runners who eventually finished behind him to secure his Fifth successive run in the English Schools CC – quite some achievement!

In the Junior race our other main hope, Cormac Whitney -Low sensibly let a small group that went off at a kamikaze pace get away and lead the second group. His good judgement paid off as he battled hard to hold his group at bay before his good track speed pulled out a decisive lead from them to earn him 6th place and his first ever London vest. In the same race Said Gabo had a solid run to come home 24th – a good result as he is only a Year 8 and if he trains more regularly then he should make the London team next year.

The Inter race pulled out a couple of surprises for the club as we saw a welcome return to racing for the enormously talented Josh Hall who was in 18th place after a mile before he stormed through the field to secure the last English Schools Champs slot by coming home 8th! The other surprise was Sammy Skipper who has occasionally trained with us and who we were told had” given up2 getting the silver medal – we will certainly try to get him to Ladywell from now on!

So with both our main hopes delivering on the day (plus two more ‘wild cards’) it has to go down as one of our better days!
