Thanks to all that came to Leeds to run and support at this years National Cross Country. I hope you all have recovered now, especially those of you who got back to your hotel early hours of Sunday morning!
If was a great team effort (17th 6 man team) with John Gilbert having another superb run leading the team home in 25th position. John set out his stall very early on and was in the 20's for most of the race and finished 15seconds ahead of myself (James Connor) in 36th place. I believe this victory may have secured the grand slam of trophy's, both the club grand prix trophy and the handicap (to go with his club champs earlier in the year).
Andrew Dunwoody 211 just edged out Rich Munn 225 for the 3rd scorer position in the closing stages (I heard it was neck and neck until hill 60), closely followed by Graeme Garner (250th) who was steaming through the field. Our 6th scorer was Andy Moreton and what a great season he has had this year considering he is more used to running 400 /800m - wow, what a find and a great team man! Andy again performed magnificently to finish 295th and has pushed John all the way in the handicap competition this year. I am really looking forward to seeing him on the short leg of the road relays and I am sure he will be running very quick time over 800 and 1500m on the track with the extra endurance he has acquired this year!
We also finished 17th in the 9 to score team with Mick Barlow in 554th maintaining his long run of consecutive Nationals (watch out Len, he is approaching you appearance record!), with Pablo Lazo who flew all the way from Madrid to run in the fine cold weather in England finishing 791st. He is also racking up the appearance tally and shows a great example of a team man (not sure many of us would leave Spain to run in the cold in England - perhaps it was the beers and the curry later on that persuaded him!). Stuart Scott and Bernie Hutchinson (the local lad - thanks for the Sunday run route and for the bus number to get us to the race) were the next two home hot on the heels of Pablo. The final man home for Kent AC was another man who must be racking up the appearances - Andy Sellars
I would like to thank you all for your participation and support throughout this winter season and wish you well for the summer months.
Next main event for the Club is the 12 stage Road Relays
