Yet another easy win meant that Kent AC secured promotion to Div 2 with one match to go, although a solid turnout is needed in the last match if they are to go up as Champions. The one piece of bad news on the day was the fractured ankle sustained by Sam Coombes – one of the unluckiest athletes ever in terms of injury. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he has a change of fortune in 2011.
John Gilbert secured another easy win with a solid run to maintain his unbeaten run this season over the country and Jim Savage, celebrating joining Kent AC first claim, looked very strong all the way, despite a cold, as he claimed Second place for the third match in a row.
Team Captain, Rich Munn, produced his best run of the season as he pulled right away from the chasing pack to come home 4th and a welcome return to racing in Kent AC colours by Andy Pickett saw an encouraging 7th place.
Just behind him saw the ‘two runs of the day’ as new boy Chris Greenwood worked his way through the field to surprise us all with 8th place, despite incredibly low weekly mileage, and U20 George Quinn took his main rival for the U20 Trophy apart to come home in 9th place.
Good backing up by Stuart Beaney, who was ill and ‘felt dreadful’, Lee Haze, back from an injury break, and U20 ‘s Quaser Mays and Richard Archer gave us a total of 132pts to clich our second successive promotion.
