Kent AC made a great start to this year’s Assembly League campaign despite a clash with the National 12 Stage Road Relay which took out our top 12 men.

As our B squad has grown dramatically in the last year so we have decided to target winning both the A and B team competitions this year and we got off to a perfect start as we WON both, in this the first of the six match competitions.

James Connor, on the eve of flying off to Australia for 3 weeks, took the race by the scruff of the neck and stormed away at the start, leaving Cambridge Harriers top man Dean Lacey in his wake, and went on to break the course record previously held by our own Jermaine Mays.

Great runs from Steve McGrory in 3rd and Rich Munn in 5th place coupled with Ron Taylor in 11th secured an easy A team win. Great backing up from Lee Haze (13th), Rory Fraser – an U20 (15th), David Peleckas – also an U20 (17th) and Quaser Mays (20th) secured a B team win in a field of over 170.

Our Women also had a great start to the campaign as they had their best ever start to the Assembly League comfortably securing Second places in both the A and B team competitions and having no fewer than 12 runners out.

So a great start - but if we are to achieve our targets then we’ll need more of the B squad out as our youngsters and the odd A teamer get drawn elsewhere.
