Kent AC produced their best ever total time in one of the ‘blue riband’ events of the year – the Southern 12 Stage Road Relay - as well as their second best ever position of 8th. This event pits the best clubs in the south of England against each other to see just how good their Endurance sections are over the 51 mile course, as it is the present day version of the historic London to Brighton Relay.

Despite being without two of their key men, Jermaine Mays and Jim Savage they were always in the mix with good early legs from Simon Taylor and Paul Pollock, both of whom had flown in from Belfast for the race. An outstanding run from local lad James Connor was the highlight of the day as his 5 mile leg in 24’ 23” put him 6th fastest overall out of over 200 runners and he was backed up well by John Gilbert’s 24’48” despite a head cold.

Our ever expanding B squad showed how vital they are as no less than 5 of them made the 12 man team and they were the backbone of the team with Steve McGrory’s 26’23” being the star turn.

We qualified for the National 12 Stage in Birmingham for the 11th successive year and with our improving and expanding squad we are looking forward to another best ever result.
