A convincing victory at Canterbury on Saturday made it four wins out of five for the B Team, which means that we're promoted to Division 1 as Champions of Division 2S.
Strong winds meant that there were few outstanding times and distances, although that didn't stop Chris and Dan, the Sergey Bubkas of the steeplechase, each chiselling their pb's down by a few seconds (thanks for the coaching, Ken). Quazar also really impressed in only his second ever high hurdles (thanks for the coaching, Joe). Generally, though, it was a day for a team effort to beat the opposition and guarantee promotion, which we did admirably. Our total of 129 points was our highest of the season and only one point away from equalling the League record for a four team match. Albert would probably have expected to be named Man of the Match for his four wins out of four in the throws, but we was just pipped by Trevor, who contributed 18 points during the afternoon including a majestic pb in the pole vault (thanks for the loan of a pole, Hastings AC).
End of season celebrations included a pub with an unfeasibly old parrot, a ticker tape welcome at London Bridge, and an open top bus parade through Catford shopping centre the following afternoon. Congratulations and thanks as always to all athletes, coaches, selectors and officials. Let's hope the A Team make it a double top at Crawley in a fortnight.
