Cross Country
Runners from the club regularly compete at all levels of Cross Country running, inter-club, county, regional and national races - no matter what the conditions (well, mostly!!). This includes club championships, London Championships, Kent XC League, Kent County XC, South of the Thames Championships, Southern and National Championships.
Here is the club's latest cross-country news:
English Schools Cross Country Champs
On a course that had been badly flooded the night before and turned into a ‘real tough one’ Alex Yee produced the outstanding performance of the day from the 48 runners representing London Schools across the six various races.
National XC 2013 'The Somme in the snow'
As Russell aptly described the race it was like ‘The Somme in the snow’. As we travelled north on the train from Kings Cross our large party of 17 Senior Men runners together with 5 supporters were being fed back information that a fair amount of snow was building up on the course.
Memorable Victory in Final Fixture that also secures League Title
The last Surrey League fixture brought a slightly unexpected triumph, with us not only winning the final fixture but also taking the overall league title. I say unexpected as although there was a degree of optimism pre-race, realistically with us trailing Thames by 63 points, the majority of us thought the gap might be too much to make up.
Champions!!! Kent AC bring back the silverware from the Surrey League
A note from our captain, not sure if the results are official yet. I just want to say a massive thanks to you all. For those that didn't make it today, we managed to turn the deficit round and win the league! Results and final table will be forwarded to this page once they are up online.
Second team again as Thames get the better of us with quality packing
It seems to becoming a bit of a familiar story in this seasons Surrey XC League. This race again saw us has having a number of runners in the top ten, but still not managing to quite secure the win. However, although Thames now have a good lead on us in the overall competition, this race saw us increase the distance between ourselves and Herne Hill to a margin we would hope to be able to defend.
John Gilbert gets International Call
Great news - following his third XC County win John Gilbert has just been selected to represent England at Cross Country in the Cardiff International on Sunday week, Jan 20th.
.John Gilbert wins a third County XC Title with team silver
John Gilbert completes a hat-trick of wins while the Team have to settle for 2nd in Team competition.
.South of the Thames Senior XC Champs
There is something of a curse on this race as far as Kent AC are concerned ! We have contested this race since its inception in 1888 – a period of 124 years - yet on countless occasions we have nearly won it only to have it snatched away from us by either bad luck or our own incompetence.
Gold at the Kent County Vets Cross Country
Our vets had another fantastic day at the Kent County Vets XC Champs. They won individual gold, silver and bronze medals as well as team gold.
.Silver Medals at the South of England Masters
An excellent day out in Woodford for our M40 team of Paul B, Phil and Luke who secured a silver in The Southern Vets XC Championships, with Jules G finishing close behind in reserve. A special congratulations to Paul who ran a belter to gain an individual bronze.
