Cross Country
Runners from the club regularly compete at all levels of Cross Country running, inter-club, county, regional and national races - no matter what the conditions (well, mostly!!). This includes club championships, London Championships, Kent XC League, Kent County XC, South of the Thames Championships, Southern and National Championships.
Here is the club's latest cross-country news:
National XC Champs
Thanks to all that came to Leeds to run and support at this years National Cross Country. I hope you all have recovered now, especially those of you who got back to your hotel early hours of Sunday morning!
.Kent County CC Champs
Thanks to all 9 people who took part in the County Senior mens race on a freezing cold day in Detling and secured us a team bronze medal in the 6 to score event. The team was led home by James Connor in 4th, who had to battle the last lap to hold off Ben Wiffen of Tonbridge (Ladywell based) who had a storming run.
Surrey League Wimbledon Common - Job done!
Again another demolition job as we took the rest of the opposition apart, if not quite as completely as the last match. None the less with all our 10 scorers in the top 20 and with 6 in the top 7 we showed that we are way above this level of competition – any of our first 3 home would have won the Div 3 race that was combined with our Div 4 race.
Young Athletes Shine in the London Schools XC Champs
Yet another good day for Kent AC over the ‘country’ this season as our younger athletes really performed well in this annual test of where they are on the London wide Schools scene. With places at stake for the top 8 in each race to represent London in the prestigious English Schools CC champs in March this is often the big race of the year for our younger distance men.
Southern XC - Another Storming Performance
Despite the 5 week break from racing, due to cancelled races, Kent AC maintained their great progress this year on the Cross Country front. At the traditional home of Cross country, Hampstead's Parliament Hill, we matched our best ever performance in the 'Southern ' with a string of fine runs to finish 5th team in this top level event .
Kent County CC Champs - RESCHEDULED to SAT 13th FEB
The resheduled Kent County champs is coming up soon - Sat 13th Feb @ Detling showground. This is a great chance for the club to build on that 5th place in the South of England last weekend. This is an event we should be strongly contesting in the 6 to score and the 12 to score events! The likes of Medway, Tonbridge and Blackheath will be our main challengers, however, if people do not show then the team will go home empty handed!
.South of the Thames Ladies Group Report
If you decided to forego this race in favour of Christmas shopping you missed a treat. Wimbledon Common had never looked so beautiful: all clad in winter frosting, spread out under a rosy, low December sun hanging in a clear blue sky.
Winning Streak Broken - But we get silver (twice!)
Well done to all those who made Saturdays race at Wimbledon Common. We managed to show how strong a team we are against a few of the Surrey League big guns (Belgrave, Herne Hill and Thames hare & Hounds - All division 1 in Surrey League).
Kent AC Vets win Gold at the County Champs
It was a great Kent AC performance. Runners in every race, medals and a cup were won.
M50 Report – Race 1 - Although it might have been anticipated that the over 40’s would be challenging for medals, it was perhaps something of a surprise that our over 50’s team came away with the silver team medal on Saturday.
Kent AC win at Lloyd Park in the Surrey XC League
Another total demolition of the opposition in the league --- but even more comprehensive than the others this year ! We had 9 men home in the top 10 and our last scorer, Rawlston Morian, came in 14th, with a brave run after falling, to close the 10 man team race with a record low score for the league.
