Young Athletes
Kent AC has a strong squad of young athletes who compete on the track, road and country. Members of our squad regularly get selected to run for Lewisham Borough in inter-London championships, with some going on to represent London at a national level.
Unfortunately, we do not currently run any training sessions for athletes under 14 years old. For this younger age-group "Sportshall" is an ideal introduction to athletics, see the links on our Links Page
Here is the latest news on events where Kent AC young athletes have competed:
Young Athletes Shine in the London Schools XC Champs
Yet another good day for Kent AC over the ‘country’ this season as our younger athletes really performed well in this annual test of where they are on the London wide Schools scene. With places at stake for the top 8 in each race to represent London in the prestigious English Schools CC champs in March this is often the big race of the year for our younger distance men.
Assembly League 2010 Provisional Dates & County XC
Here are the provisional Assembly League fixtures for the 2010 season. This is the 35th season in which the League has taken place. We will be visiting the familiar race venues with two visits to the fast and completely flat course at the Dome - although as building work in the area continues this course will remain under review.
Kent County CC Champs - RESCHEDULED to SAT 13th FEB
The resheduled Kent County champs is coming up soon - Sat 13th Feb @ Detling showground. This is a great chance for the club to build on that 5th place in the South of England last weekend. This is an event we should be strongly contesting in the 6 to score and the 12 to score events! The likes of Medway, Tonbridge and Blackheath will be our main challengers, however, if people do not show then the team will go home empty handed!
.Kent AC win at Lloyd Park in the Surrey XC League
Another total demolition of the opposition in the league --- but even more comprehensive than the others this year ! We had 9 men home in the top 10 and our last scorer, Rawlston Morian, came in 14th, with a brave run after falling, to close the 10 man team race with a record low score for the league.
Kent AC win at the South of the Thames
We completed a Hat-trick of Team Wins, in all 3 fixtures so far this season, with a demolition of the opposition on Saturday to secure our 7th win in the South of the Thames Team Championship in the last 10 years.
Club AGM Calling Notice
Kent Athletic Club AGM Calling Notice. The Annual General Meeting for 2009 will be held at.. The Goose on the Green Public House, Catford, Rushey Green opposite the theatre. On Tuesday 1st December 2009 at 8:30 pm.
XC Season 2009-2010
The winter is just around the corner, with the smell of cross country in the air once again! Last weekend was the first race of the season in the Surrey League (and probably the last in such glorious sunshine on a flat track - golf fairway springs to mind!) which started on a good note with us have 6 in the first 7 in this 10 to score team event, and running out clear winners on the day.
B Team Match 6 at Tonbridge
If you haven't already heard, it's bad news for the B Team following a disappointing fifth place at Tonbridge on Saturday. Once again, there were lots of good performances but the high standard of the other teams and our lack of field athletes, particularly throwers, meant that we lost out.
Thanks from Joe A
Thank you to all those who contributed to my brother's spikes appeal. I visited the village secondary school in Ghana in May and handed over approx 15 pair of spikes shoes. The headmaster held a meeting with all the teachers and l presented the shoes.
The B team visit Woking in the Southern League
Evening all. Fourth place for the B team at Woking. Once again, lots of excellent performances and, in a tough match, we were only six points off second place. Noteworthy performances included Kent AC athletes winning the first three track events of the day, all at 400m hurdles with the third being a pb for Quazar running as a guest in the Division Three match.
B Team match at Parliament Hill - 27 June 2009
A disappointing fifth place for the B Team in a shambolic match at Parliament Hill.
.SL Match 3 Mile End
That's more like it. Third equal for the B team in a tight and high-quality match at Mile End on Saturday. A really good team spirit, twenty competing athletes, and some good individual performances made for the most satisfying result of the season so far in my book.
SL Match 2 Milton Keynes
Back down to earth with a bump for the B team on Saturday at Milton Keynes. Last place and we were lucky to get that. High quality opposition, strong winds and, in particular, a weakened team made for a difficult day all round.
SL Match 1 Sutcliffe Park
Dear All, Well, I never thought I'd ever type these words ... "The B Team is top of Division One of the Southern League".
Our tactic of targeting the first, traditionally weak match of the season and, er, exploiting the new Southern League rules by using a number of A Team athletes really paid off with a convincing win at our "home" match.
