15th August 2021
OLYMPIANS LIGHT UP THE TRACK
A BIG thank you to Alex for being extremely generous with his time over the course of the evening at Ladywell Arena. We look forward to continuing to follow and cheer on your journey!
We were also extremely lucky to have Nick McCormick, past Olympian and New Balance brand manager there as well on the evening. Paul Crompton has captured footage of the evening which we look forward to sharing with you soon!
SOUTHERN ATHLETICS LEAGUE
There were many performances of note including:
Katie Rowland dominated the 3000m
Jen Berg perfectly timed her finish to win the 1500m
Nathan Brown won the mens 200m
Peter Lighting went from the gun to win the mens 5000m despite a strong challenge from newcomer Cameron who finished second
Max Harbord seemed to do every event. It was particularly impressive when he finished the 100m, went straight to the long jump and came straight back to get a PB of 53s in the 400M
Tracey Griffiths is a stalwart at the SAL. As our only dedicated thrower she provided much needed points once again by covering all four throws. She also offered lots of helpful advice to those of us less able at throwing events
Having relay teams at the end of the day was fantastic. Apparently these points pushed us into third place on the day. We think this is our best points total. This is not just down to these fantastic individual performances. Many people were trying events for the first time and really built on our score
The next fixture is at Norman Park In Bromley on September 11th. Let’s get a huge team out and set our best score next. There is no minimum standard and everyone is welcome.
Please add yourself to the spreadsheet if would like to compete. If you are able to volunteer, do get in touch. The timetable can be found at: Southern Athletics League Timetable. Feel free to contact Ian Ellwood or Vic Buck if you have any questions.

Blackheath and Bromley Harriers AC Will Bolton Memorial XC Relays 2021
Sarah Hanley, our cross country women’s captain, is keen to enter a women’s team at the upcoming Will Bolton Memorial XC Relay on Saturday 18th September. It is a great opportunity to reintroduce, or introduce, yourself to XC before the upcoming season begins.
Teams are made up of four runners, on a 4km course which has been described as a “fast and furious undulating cross-country course”. Please see here for more information. To enter please contact Sarah Hanley.
There will also be a junior team entered. Please see the junior team section for more details!
As well as the above we can start looking forward to the return of both the road relays and the cross country season, which were lost last season due to COVID-19. Please make a note of the below with more details to come in future newsletters!

BIG HALF SOCIAL
It’s the Big Half next weekend (Sunday 22nd August) and back by popular demand is the post-race social. We currently have drinks organised at Little Faith in Deptford (same place last year) from midday (they’ve agreed to open early for us) and are currently finalising details for the time between finishing and midday.
Please keep an eye on Whatsapp and email groups and we look forward to seeing both runners and supporters!
KENT AC PASSES 500 MEMBERS
This week Kent AC passed the 500 member barrier. The club has grown steadily over the years from around 100 members in the late 1980’s to a present total of 507.
Please see below a few statistics on the current make-up of the club from our Membership Secretary Bernie Hutchinson:
WE NEED OFFICIALS!
There are many opportunities to volunteer at the next SAL on September 14th to get a taste of what officiating involves and the club is also able to pay for interested members to take relevant courses to become a recognised official

We are always looking for more gate volunteers to share the load. Shifts are now 5:35-6:50pm and 6:30-7:45pm. Please contact Heather if you’re free to volunteer and to find out which slots are available.
A big reminder to everyone that Sarah Hanley will be collecting old running trainers for re:run charity to prevent them from going to landfill. Her last collection day will be Tuesday 17th August at the track. Sarah will be at the main gate from 6:45-7:15pm.
