KENT AC ON TOUR
Women of Kent were out in the sticks this weekend, kicking up the autumn leaves while running their socks off. Pictured above (l to r) Genevieve Blanch, Caoimhe Nic Fhogartaigh, Kate Williams (she kept her socks pulled up) and Eliza Grant), the dream team that finished second in the South of the Thames Junior Race, in Aldershot. Congratulations !
Making short work of 13.1 miles in Hampshire were Victoria Buck and Katie Rowland, running the Gosport Half. Katie earned herself a championship place in the London Marathon for her efforts.
A longer, more leisurely, but arguably more scenic adventure was undertaken by Sarah Young and Ronnie Haydon (pictured above) and Zuzana Nemekova (behind the camera owing to the absence of her Kent AC logo, tut), all of whom opted for the 15-mile option at Roly’s Run. Roly’s is a superb trail-run memorial for a young man called Rich Walklate, who died in 2018. There are 20- and 40-mile options, too, details here
Zuzana was using the race as a taper for the 125-km ultra in the Azores next weekend. We wish her all the best.
VOTE FOR JOE
Our own Joe Appiah is a contender in the Athletics Weekly Readers Choice Awards for Top British Masters Man.
We all know he’s a top man, but if you’re asking yourself ‘just who is this Joe Appiah?’, here’s his bio:
‘The multiple world and European masters champion made his debut this summer in the M50 category by taking the British 100m hurdles record with a stunning 13.85. He is also a fine jumper and tops the M50 2021 rankings at both long jump (6.07m) and triple jump (a windy 12.22m).’
