JOE APPIAH WINS AW AWARD
In the recent Athletics Weekly Reader’s Awards, our very own Joe Appiah came out on top in the British Masters Male category, having had a successful summer smashing records on the track.
This is what AW had to say:
Appiah set an M50 UK record in the 100m hurdles this year and topped the national rankings at long jump and triple jump. He dedicates his award to Jason Carty, a fellow veteran sprinter who died this year, adding: “The reason I have been successful is my incredible support network of family, coaches, physios, therapists and sponsors, plus my amazing training group at Kent AC.”

AGM ROUND-UP
The officer reports and minutes will soon be here.
The headlines are that the club is healthy financially, has amended its rules slightly and in a minor reshuffling of the chairs, John Barron is juniors secretary (a new post) , Chris Busaileh new men’s road manager, Dave Morgan the track admin officer (also a new post), Georgina Wiley joins Neil as joint welfare officer and Vic Buck and I were elected job share president. There are still vacancies for women’s vets manger, club championships organiser and vests manager.
We are a club that does a very great deal and entirely through people volunteering their time. We work on the principle that it’s fairest and most effective for lots of people to offer a small amount of time, no matter how little. So think about one of the jobs above, or helping out on the gate on a Tuesday, Thursday or at the weekend; or helping at the south of the Thames XC at Beckenham on 18 Dec.

VETS SHINE ON COUNTY STAGE
Central Park, Dartford, again played host to the Kent Veterans Championship on Saturday. Yet again the club came away with a host of medals in both the men’s and women’s races. There were individual and team medals and importantly this year we had two race winners – Roger Beardswoth in the V60 race and Julian Spencer- Wood, claimed the V70 title.
Our M40 Men retained their title, with team silver in the M50 & M60 categories, whilst the women won team silver across all age categories too!
Pictured below are the M60 team, well done to everyone who raced.
