KENT AC NEWS BULLETIN
5 August 2024
Back on this side of the Channel, Kent AC fielded a teamful of talent at Thursday’s Assembly League in Victoria Park, Hackney. This course is a fair bit longer than the usual 5km, which is always a challenge, but soft, refreshing rain smoothed our progress. Jonathan Tipper was our first male finisher, fifth overall in 18:31 and Ellie Freeden was first Kent AC woman (second woman overall in 21:21).Full results here
Our Olympian woman Amy Clements continues to impress: she took first prize at the Sri Chimnoy 10k on Saturday 3 August, running an eye-popping 34:18. Isaac Parker was first male Kent AC contender in 33:58. Full results here. Also on Saturday a team of Ross Braden, Rob Seseman, Ben Clarke and Dave Morgan ran the Wimbledon 5000s. The results were inspiring, with Ross running a fantastic 14:10, Rob 14:47, Ben 15:22 and Dave 15:56. Well done, lads.
A big shout out for our Juniors in the KYAL league. They’re currently in second place, so have a good chance of promotion on this season’s cracking form. Wonderful hurdling from Tess Hepple, who goes from strength to strength. Anne Hepple and Stephen Jones have put in many hours of work with our junior athletes and their dedication is evidently paying off. What a team!

Spirits undampened
Just a number, etc. Kent AC’s senior service…apologies to Zoe, whose late finish was TFL related
Chinmoy joy for the boys
Running on empty, this athlete will soon be full of beans, but who is he? And where?
WARE’S SAL NOW?
The final Southern Athletics League (SAL) of the 2024 track & field season is in Ware, Hertfordshire on Saturday 17th August.
Currently, Kent AC sit a highly respectable 7th out 18 teams in Div 2 but are not safe from relegation and we go into this match with several key athletes unavailable due to summer holiday commitments.
What we need from you:
Please check your calendars and try your best to make yourself available to be part of the team, either as an athlete or as an official (there are points for providing officials). We need to try and fill as many events as possible with two scoring athletes, so need people to embrace a “School Sports Day Spirit” and have an attempt at events they are not experts in as well as the events their training is more suited for.
What to expect:
The standard at the SAL is comparable to a typical parkrun – the best athletes are very impressive but others are just there to roll up their sleeves and give it a go. You will see people climbing steeplechase barriers, attempting a pretty low pole-vault (the height is set below head level) and there may be teams getting lapped in the 4x400m relays, so it’s really about the team bonding experience, not about the win. Most importantly, it’s a fun day out.
What does it cost:
It is free to enter and if you travel to the event with the team, then transport costs are also covered.
Entry details:
Take a look at the events and put your name down on this spreadsheet to take part: SAL 2024
Timetable is in the second tab.
