This week will see the Assembly League return to Victoria Park, so join us north of the river for a night of [just over] 5km running and many drinks after.
It’s also not too early to sign up for the next SAL at Thurrock on the 19th August. And if that’s not enough, save the date for 14th September for the Club Champs 5000m – more details and entry sheets to follow!
HAPPY 125th BIRTHDAY TO KENT AC
It’s not often that a 125th birthday comes around, and this year we’re celebrating in true Kent AC style. Back in July 1898, the Lewisham Hare and Hounds amalgamated with the West Kent Harriers to form what has now become the club that we know and love today.
Roll on 125 years, and we’ll be celebrating with a weekend of events on 16-17th September, including an evening of drinks, food and dancing at The Old Joinery in Greenwich on Saturday 16th . It is sure to be a night to remember so we would love to see all club members coming out to join in the fun. Tickets are £42 to members only.
WEDDING BELLS AND TRAIL FELLS
A huge congratulations from everyone at Kent AC to Katie and Ed for getting married this weekend up in the beautiful Lake District! Hoping you had a wonderful day and continue the celebrations for lots of laps and runs to come!
THE TWILIGHT SAGA
Tuesday night saw a number of Kent runners race and pace at the Tracksmith Twilight 5000 at the Olympic Park Community Stadium.
Richard Giles doubled up pacing races 3 and 4, race 4 also saw George Russell expertly pace Lara Bromilow to a fantastic 17:53.
Race 3 had Iago Martinez and Race 5 had Oliver Harland as Kent’s only competitors in crossing the line in 19:15 and 18:20, respectively.
George himself doubling up to race in race 8 alongside with Sean Fitzpatrick and Joe Viz finishing in 16:10, 15:45 and 15:43 respectively.
Cam Dockerill and Rob Sesemann battled hard against a quality field in race 9, Cam taking the bragging rights with 14:51 over Rob’s 15:15.
Race 6 was the race of the night with B-group regulars Ben Racle with a fantastic 16:35, Nick Ostrowski also PBing with 16:37, Ben Armson in 17:16 and Kieran Fitzpatrick 17:28.
JUNIORS ON TOP
It wasn’t just the seniors in action this week, with many of Kent AC’s juniors in action at Norman Park on Thursday night. And what a night of PBs it was! Congratulations to George and Tallulah for smashing the 1500m in 5:09 and 5:29 respectively, to Dylan and Louis for bounding to 2:18 and 2:25 in the 800m, and to Zac for a terrific 52:18 in the 400m.
A number of the Kent AC juniors also came along to Burgess junior parkrun today. Louis and George ran together for much of the way, showing that team work makes the dream work. Well done to Louis for pipping the podium position in 7:29. Alice came in exactly one minute after as the first female to cross the line. Nice work, everyone!
JUNIORS ON TOP
There was more racing on Wednesday night at a wet, windy and character testing Tooting Bec.
800m was the name of the game for Harry Wilshaw, Jasper Jones and Alexa Parker. Jasper had a standout performance, following regular races this this season and was rewarded with a new PB of 2:06.99. Almost 4 seconds already this season shaved off – well done!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Sarah Crichton is organising a junior-friendly athletics competition for Kent AC junior members only on Saturday 16 September at Ladywell Arena.
It will be a friendly track and field competition of a maximum of 6 events, in a round robin style with athletes in groups, going between events. Events group coaches will be around to support on the day. The event is designed for Kent AC athletes only as a fun ending to the summer track and field schedule, giving athletes a chance to show off their development over the course of the season.
The event will be at Ladywell Arena on Saturday 16th September to coincide with the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations.
The full details are to be confirmed, but I am looking for people to email me if they can volunteer to help with:
– organising the entries
– officiating the events (we are not aiming this event to go on power of 10 so no previous experience required- previous support at KYAL would be more than enough)
– on the day event management
– supporting with refreshments on the day
If anyone is able to support with organising and running this event, please email Sarah on sarah.hanley87@gmail.com)”

SPEAK NOW…IF YOU CAN HELP OUT THE CLUB
Would you like to take a leading role in the club? Are you organised and have an eye for detail? Or do you just want to earn a pint for some volunteering? If you answered yes to any of these questions, we have just the ticket for you.
We are looking for a new Track Admin Officer. This is a committee post, which involves technical admin of the track pass app and negotiating hours and rates for the track with GLL and the council.
If you would like to find out more about this, then please contact Amelia.
THE GATE ESCAPE
Gate volunteers form the unsung heroes spine of the club, making sure that our Tuesday and Thursday night sessions can run smoothly and safely. It’s a great way to meet new people and have a chat with friends too, as well as give back a little bit of time to the club. You can sign up here!
LET’S MAKE IT OFFICIAL
Athletics needs more officials, and volunteering in this way is a wonderful way to give back to the club.
This is a great opportunity to help get club events’ results on Power of 10. And it’s fun.
Our SAL performances not only need athletes, but also qualified officials – so you can directly contribute to our success! Every qualification counts!
It’s a straightforward process that the club will pay for, with more detail on available courses here.
Please contact Len Reilly for more info.
It would be great to see a few more people put their names down to help out!
