Latest news from one of South London's top athletics & running clubs ...
Elmbridge 10k
The newly flourishing B endurance squad turned out in force on Sunday to win the team prize at Elmbridge 10k. Although the times recorded by our runners were a good way off the impressive leading times of 30 minutes 20 seconds and 30 m 25 s, we showed our our new strength in depth in winning a 6 to count team competition awarded on a cumulative time basis.
TOP DRAWER!
After a tough heat and even tougher semi final Jack Green produced a big PB in the 400 m Hurdles Final of the WORLD Junior Champs in Canada on Friday. Despite running blind all the way in lane 8 he stormed through to come home in 5th place with PB of 50.
Walton-on-Thames Southern League match 5
Fifth place for the B Team at Walton-on-Thames last Saturday in a very high quality match. We had a few absentees and then things got worse with injuries to two big points scorers, Trevor Jamieson-Agard and Rawlston Morian.
Southern League Guildford
Kent AC's B Team took their winning run to TWO matches at Guildford on Saturday, taking them to a point away from the promotion places with two matches to go. There were some British League standard performers on show during the afternoon, but we were the only team that maintained a good level across all of the events and ended as easy winners after pulling away from Windsor in the last few events of the afternoon.
Southern League 3
A first win of the season for the B Team at Twickenham, which I'm told moves us up to 12th in the league table (sorry, I can't find the link anywhere). We consistently got good points throughout the afternoon, including six B-string wins.
Southern League at Erith
A very satisfactory 2nd place for the B Team at Erith on Saturday. We were stronger in most events than we had been in the first match, especially in the throws, where Albert, Courtney and Rawlston showed what a difference it makes when we can fill these events.
Southern League Hemel Hempstead
A tough start to the season for the B Team at Hemel Hempstead on Saturday - fifth place with 79 points. Just not enough people to go round really, and our match was a much higher standard than the other Division 2 match taking place on the same track that afternoon.
Southern 12 Stage
Sunday 21st March saw us once again compete in the SEAA Southern 12 Stage Road Relay Championships in Milton Keynes. With bright sunshine but a stiff breeze all the runners knew they would have their work cut out to match last year's result of 11th place.
BUSA Champs Gold Standard
Matt Burton finished his Indoor season in fine style as he moved to no.3 in the GB Indoor Rankings for 2010 with an easy Win in the BUSA Champs in Sheffield last Sat.
Confirming yet again his new found level he broke the Championship Best Performance Record with a jump of 7.
National XC Champs
Thanks to all that came to Leeds to run and support at this years National Cross Country. I hope you all have recovered now, especially those of you who got back to your hotel early hours of Sunday morning!
.Long Jump Record Smashed Again
Showing that his medal in the AAA Indoors last week was no fluke Matt Burton, representing Loughborough University, improved on his new Club Record by demolishing the field and winning with a jump of 7.
Kent County CC Champs
Thanks to all 9 people who took part in the County Senior mens race on a freezing cold day in Detling and secured us a team bronze medal in the 6 to score event. The team was led home by James Connor in 4th, who had to battle the last lap to hold off Ben Wiffen of Tonbridge (Ladywell based) who had a storming run.
2010 Sidcup 10 Provisional Results now available
Well done to all finishers at this years Sidcup 10 mile road race held on Sunday. It was an excellent turnout in 2010 with 389 finishers. Victoria Park's Paul Martelliti won the race in the fastest time seen for quite a few years of 49:15.
Surrey League Wimbledon Common - Job done!
Again another demolition job as we took the rest of the opposition apart, if not quite as completely as the last match. None the less with all our 10 scorers in the top 20 and with 6 in the top 7 we showed that we are way above this level of competition – any of our first 3 home would have won the Div 3 race that was combined with our Div 4 race.
Young Athletes Shine in the London Schools XC Champs
Yet another good day for Kent AC over the ‘country’ this season as our younger athletes really performed well in this annual test of where they are on the London wide Schools scene. With places at stake for the top 8 in each race to represent London in the prestigious English Schools CC champs in March this is often the big race of the year for our younger distance men.
