KENT AC NEWS BULLETIN
25 September 2022
Particular congratulations go to our esteemed co-president Vic Buck, who covered herself in glory in Crystal Palace. The picture below shows Vic, along with V40 team mates Dee (far right), Vicky (far left) and Ali (second left). Extraordinary running from those four women.
SEAA RELAYS RESULTS

The senior men placed an excellent 7th place at the Southern 6 stage relays at Aldershot. Showing the value of consistency (the individual leg times for the entire A team varied between 18.37 and 19.00) the team built on an excellent start by Russell Bentley to move through what was a very strong field. As an illustration of the depth of the event, the team’s overall time was just 30seconds slower than in 2014 on that course when Kent took home bronze medals.
The men’s B team finished a highly creditable 27th (6th B team) which, by virtue of being ahead of the 18th A team, should earn qualification into the Nationals. Special mention to Dan Pettitt who ran a superb 1st leg (18.56). Calum Fraser ran the only leg of the C team (a very solid 20.27) but decided, on balance, that also running the 5 remaining legs might compromise the start of his winter training.

Over at Crystal Palace there were some excellent results. The senior women took 6th place. In what looked like a tight run race they were just 55 seconds from a medal. The women’s B team were 9th and the C team 12th.
In the vets, the women’s team had a fantastic day taking home gold in the V40s (with Vic Buck also running the fastest leg of the day) whilst the V50s came second.
The mens V40s came third behind Serpentine and Victoria Park with Neil, Richard, Pete and Ben. The V60s came second behind winners SLH, with David, John, Chris and Len.
Many thanks to Katie Rowland and Nicky Hayes for organising entries, and to Pete B for bringing the club flag.
RESULTS FROM FARTHER AFIELD

Back in Blighty, Will Pitt went to Bristol to compete in the England Masters V Wales 10K champs, running the course in 35:44.

Coach Rowan writes:
A fantastic performance for the under 13 boys at the SEAA championships on Saturday in what was an interesting race with both the under 15 & 13 age groups running as one. We saw some gutsy running from Lucas Stickland, followed by Mikey Crabtree who bravely battled through the end of the second leg with just one shoe. With us in a great position George Searle and Zac Cunningham impressively ticked through the field overtaking numerous under 15 teams to finish on a massive high.
Results are not yet in, but we think they finished 4th or 5th, which given two of the boys hadn’t run a competitive race before and all our team are in the lower bound of the age group is a brilliant result for all the hard work they’ve put in over the summer- the future looks bright for K

KIT UPDATE & SHOE NEWS
Spare trainers?
Is there a pair of impulse-buy running shoes (in good condition) sitting neglected in the back of your wardrobe?
Lewisham Donation Hub would love them. The cost of living crisis means that many individuals in the borough cannot afford decent shoes, especially trainers, and may need yours.
If you can donate, bring them along to the Hub, which operates out of The Place, in Ladywell. More information at www.lewishamdonationhub.org

This will likely suit members who can’t make training sessions but would like to train in the morning/lunchtime/evening.
Pay as you go fees can either be paid via cash to the desk or using the Better app (note: staff are working to add the sessions to the app).
FUNDRAISING FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
Many thanks for all the generous donations made by club members so far for junior track and field athletics. So far since the e-mail went out the club has raised a further £1,004.16. However, there is still time to make your donations and we need more money as the junior section is expanding rapidly.
We currently have a waiting list of more 70. Our growth is only restricted by the speed at which we can recruit additional volunteer coaches. At 160 junior members we could field competitive teams across all age groups and genders on a regular basis for both track & field and XC.
To implement the above we need funds for:
coaching courses
coach travel expenses
coach development workshops,
coaches kit
equipment specifically appropriate for youngsters for ALL disciplines
league and race entry fees
sundry items like awards (other than medals).
Helping to keep sports affordable for families and providing opportunities to low-income families.
Your donation to the development and future sustainability of the juniors would be appreciated and put to good use. Every penny counts.
Don’t forget to press the Gift Aid button.

Thank you in advance for your donation and your support in Junior athletics.
