SOUTH OF ENGLAND BRONZE
We were back in familiar territory on Saturday as Beckenham Place Park hosted the Southern XC Championships just two weeks after a successful Surrey League fixture in the same location.
The women followed up their recent success with a superb team bronze in the Senior Women’s race – the first senior team medal ever collected at this event. Leading the team home was Alexa Parker in 33rd followed by the all-conquering Elms duo of Lucy & Clare in 40th and 57th (seemingly the first time a mother & daughter have ever medalled in the same team), with Teresa Murphy pulling out a great run in 67th to see the team home.
It was a testing course, organised much more thoroughly by SEAA after the furore of last year’s event, which saw the women race over 8km and the men over 15km, although underfoot conditions were significantly less sapping than the earlier SL match. Aldershot comfortably won the women’s event overall with Georgie Bruinvels winning the overall race too, as Belgrave finished in second place.
For the men’s event, the team competition was much tighter with just two points separating the top two clubs as Highgate and Tonbridge battled it out. It was Highgate who nabbed it with an impressive 101 points despite Tonbridge’s Jamie Kingston taking the individual title. Kent 2nd claimer Max Nicholls contributed to Tonbridge’s medalling team with a 13th place finish whilst Kent’s first finisher was again Cameron Dockerill in 56th place – a good 40 places higher than last year.
Forming the rest of the scoring men’s team was Dan Pettitt 69th, James Boustead 81st, Calum Fraser 117th, George Russell 125th and Che Compton 223rd, which was enough to leave the men 11th overall.
Our medal-winning women, Clare Elms, Teresa Murphy, Lucy Elms and Alexa Parker
The end of the cross season is around the corner with just two senior club fixtures left – a key Surrey League clash in Croydon on Feb 11th (with the women pushing for league victory and the men closing in on 3rd) and then the pinnacle of the season with the National Cross in Cheshire on 25th Feb. So let’s make sure we turn out for the club and final the season in style

SOAR RACE VESTS
As advertised in previous newsletters, Clare Elms and Chris Greenwood have kindly made an order for Kent AC soar vests. The order was sent last weekend.
We have ordered 3 additional male vests (size M) and 1 additional female vest (size S). The vests cost £60. If you would be interesting in purchasing one of these then please let us know by contacting Chris (men) and Clare (women).
Vests will be allocated on first come first served.
Please note: there are no expectations for our members to purchase one of these vests. We continue to offer the Ronhill vests, subsidised by the club when you join, as the club official vest. We recognise that the material of the Soar vests is premium (although comes at a cost) and therefore members may prefer to compete in these vests. Both the Ronhill vest offering and Soar are suitable for representing Kent AC in club competition.
