KENT AC CLEAN SWEEP
A sunny afternoon in Lloyd Park, Croydon played host to South of Thames Junior Cross Country yesterday, where men and women race together over 5 miles. The turnout from Kent AC was strong, with our navy vests the most numerous in the field, so hopes were high.
The early race strung out quite quickly with some decent quality up front with former England 10,000m champion Dom Nolan setting the early pace. Our own Cam Dockerill put himself up there and hung on well to be our first runner home in 5th place, with second claimer Max Nicholls claiming 3rd.
The rest of the men closed out the scoring 4 in 15, with Dan Pettitt 7th, Isaac Maxwell 10th and Chris Busaileh rounding it out. This made for a nervous wait to calculate whether a total of 37 points was enough, since Belgrave managed to close out their 4 just slightly ahead of us. However, with placings of 4,9,12 and 14, it left them slightly short with 39 points, meaning a narrow win for the Kent boys.
The 8-to-score competition, was a much more comprehensive win as a sea of navy flooded in, but it proved very competitive to make that Top 8 with James Boustead, Matt Speed, Neil Phillips and Jon Tipper being those who got their hands on the shield.
The women were equally impressive racing over the 5 miles with the front of the race having a very Surrey League feel to it as Georgie Bruinvels took the overall win. However, that was just about the only thing that the women didn’t take home with them as Catherine Kandie led the team home in 3rd place overall.
Catherine was followed home by Lucy Elms with a strong run for 4th place and then Caoimhe in 6th with Clare Elms in 7th, to round out a comprehensive win. The top 8 all managed to finish within the top 21, so some fab running, which meant that both the men and women regained the trophy they last won back in 2019.
Men’s top 8 (l-r): Neil Phillips, Cam Dockerill, Dan Pettitt, Chris Busaileh, James Boustead, Jon Tipper, Matt Speed
Almost the full women’s line-up in all their glory!

CRYSTAL PALACE CRISIS
The venue (still called the National Sports Centre) has been chronically underfunded with local authorities facilitating a ‘managed decline’ for many years, leaving the sports facilities decrepit and unusable. This is a deplorable situation for the ‘spiritual home of British athletics’, which has seen many historic and memorable performances over the years.
The main thing we can do at this stage is to support this ongoing petition and write to your local MP/councillor who has facilitated this mess.
