Meanwhile, over in Battersea Park on Friday night, Jake Simmonds claimed a victorious first place and a PB over 5km in 15:09, closely followed by Chris Greenwood in fourth place and a worthy first V45. Adam Paterson also hit a PB, Annie Birch equalled her road PB, whilst James Boustead and Ben Harding hailed seasons bests.
Further afield in Amsterdam, Vic Cartwright scored a PB in the halve marathon too, running 91:17 as the 9th woman to cross the line! Prosecco all round following some solid training blocks!
Back on esteemed home turf at Ladywell this morning, the juniors ran in the London mini marathon trials, with Euan, George, Lucas and Zac all qualifying. Huge!
Next week sees Kent AC return to Dulwich parkrun, which we hope you’ll join us for to run (or volunteer).
WEY AYE, IT’S THE VETS TYNE TO SHINE
The National Vets XC saw triumphs in Tyneside on Saturday, with long journeys well rewarded. Of Kent’s five participants, three took away individual medals. Surely the best success ratio of any club.
There were two races, women and 65+ men had two laps of 5.8k and men three of 8.6k, run on a real cross country course (nothing flat, nothing dry, nothing smooth) and wetter underfoot than almost anything else this winter.
Fifth overall and first WV45 was Caoimhe Nic Fhogartaigh, rounding off her season with a win every bit as emphatic as that at the Kent Vets. Close behind and comfortable WV55 winner, also retaining her title for the fourth time, was Clare Elms.
In the second race, Jonathan Tipper, modestly claiming no prowess in cross country, was a convincing third in the M40 category. One position, but a minute behind, was Ben Cook, running for his new outfit, North Shields Poly.
Members Rich Giles and Len Reilly made up the numbers, along with Steve Smythe.
Sadly, we lacked numbers to close credible teams, but next year offers a further opportunity to make our mark on another national stage.
Champions Caoimhe and Clare post-competition, pre-celebration.
If you would like a shout out for a race result or want to surprise a fellow Kent runner with a PB in the newsletter, make sure to email us at commsmgr@kentac.org.uk.

SHOW TRACK AND FIELD YOUR LOVE
Athletics needs more officials, and volunteering in this way is a wonderful way to give back to the club.
Courses take place on 1 April in Norman Park, and the following are available:
Level 1 Starter/Starters Assistant
Level 1 Track Judge
Level 1 Field Judge
This is a great opportunity to help get club events’ results on Power of 10. And it’s fun.
It’s a straightforward process that the club will pay for, with more detail here.

Please contact Len Reilly for more info.
It would be great to see a few more people put their names down to help out!
