WOMEN OF KENT RULE
Inspirational!
Here’s Teresa Murphy, first woman home (1:26.06) in last Saturday’s Kingston Half Marathon
Queen of the south! Teresa admits that the whole throne thing is ‘a bit cheesy’ but let’s just focus on the Champagne.
Here’s Sarah Hanley, number 1 woman in the Stroud Half Marathon (1:26.15). Sadly she was not ushered to a golden throne (we’re talking the People’s Republic of Stroud here) but we hear her mother has created a whole show reel, which will make for good viewing at our Christmas party (details to come).
A blast from the not-too-distant past here: We’ve recently learned that Caoimhe Nic Fhogartaigh (pictured on the right of our first-claim marathon star Georgina Wiley) came third overall in her age group (40-44) at the London Marathon on 3 October. Caoimhe is a second-claimer for Kent AC, but any woman who runs 2:48:25 we happily claim as our own.
News just in from this weekend: Sally Urqhuart and Tina ran a half-marathon on Wimbledon Common through torrential rain, negotiating floods, mud and hills. Sally ran a very respectable 1:44:05.
James Steatham completed Coventry Half in similar conditions, all the more impressive, given a seriously challenging long-term knee condition.

We currently have 78 junior members with another intake early next month. To coach run, jump and throw activities we need a large team of volunteers.
The club will fund the cost of qualifications but we need regular commitment to coaching. Our coaches are friendly and encouraging so you will have lots of support.

DATES FOR THE DIARY
Takes place on
Tuesday 30th November.
Venue: Blythe Hill Tavern, 319 Stanstead Rd, London SE23 1JB
Time: 8.30pm
Dan Ansell writes:
I’ll send out an agenda a couple of weeks before the meeting but there are two major points of interest I’d like to bring to your attention.
1. Proposed changes to club rules.
I will elaborate more fully in a later communication but the Committee feels to continue to move forward the following Committee posts need to be created
– Juniors Secretary
– Track Administration Officer
and the following post removed
– Junior Athletes Representative
Committee posts are described in the Club Rules, hence the requirement for the rule change.
2. Election of Officers.
This is a regular item on the agenda of the AGM. Posts are open for nomination although generally most post holders are expected to continue. That said, we are particularly interested to hear from any members who may wish to be considered for the following posts:
Committee posts
– President
– Membership Secretary (potentially as a job-share)
– Coaching Secretary
– Welfare Officer (woman; job-share/maternity cover)
Non-Committee posts
– Club Championships Organiser(s)
– Officials Secretary
If you have any motions to submit regarding the proposed club rule changes, and/or would like to be considered for any of the posts listed above, or would like more details, please let me know by no later than Friday 12th November.
