Weekends made for racing
KENT AC NEWS BULLETIN
12 June 2022
Kent AC started with the Assembly League last Thursday, then Joe Appiah ran an unofficial WR for the V50 100m Hurdles (!!) on Saturday, the endurance groups finished 3rd at the 209 mile Welsh Castle Relays and the T&F athletes won the second Southern Athletics League at Battersea park today.
Next on the calendar are Dulwich Relays on Wednesday 15th and Bromley 10k Summer Social on Wednesday 22nd.
RACING HIGHLIGHTS
The second Assembly League took place on Thursday in Victoria Park where we saw ~40 of our members complete the 3.5 mile course. The next race will also be in Victoria Park on the 7th July.
London Schools T&F Championships – Saturday 11th June
Joe Appiah ran an unofficial WR of 13.49s for V50 100m hurdles! (13.57 current WR)
Joe currently holds the British Record for the 100m hurdles (13.85s). A real shame his performance is unlikely to count as official due to lack of qualified officials at the event, however we wish Joe the best of luck for the World Masters Championships in Finland in 3 weeks time.
Southern Athletics League, Match 2 – Sunday 12th June
Kent AC won again in the second fixture of the Southern Athletics League at Battersea Park in a closely fought fixture.
We dominated the distance and middle distance events with wins in the 1500m from Lucy Elms and Noah Armitage-Hooks. We also won the 5000m with Lara Bromilow and 3000m with Cameron Dockeril. Lyndon also won the steeplechase.
Harry and Stan Forman Wilshaw dominated both the a and B string 800m and performed well in the 400m too.
Leah Scott won the 100m and ran a great 200m and Rhyeime Anderson also ran competitively in both the 100m and 200m finishing 2nd and 3rd.
There were several multi eventers collecting a large amount of points including:
-Will Pitt (1500m, hammer, shot, triple jump, 800m, 4×400)
-Miguel Stucchi (110h, long jump, javelin, high jump)
-Ian Ellwood (110h, hammer throw, discus, 4x400m and a 10.7 mile Welsh Castles Relay leg into a headwind)
-Lucy Elms (1.5k SC, 800M, 400M, 1500M and 4x400m)
-Ellie Hepple (100h, TJ and LJ)
Thanks to all the officials who turned out, particularly Pete Boxhall who spent all day in the sun again as one of the timekeepers.
The next fixture is on the 16th July in Tooting. If we win we guarantee promotion.
Welsh Castles Relay – 11th-12th June
A team of 20 runners headed out to Wales this weekend for the Welsh Castles 209 mile relay. Kent AC finished 3rd out of 55 teams.

This will likely suit members who can’t make training sessions but would like to train in the morning/lunchtime/evening.
