At the British Masters Road Relays on Saturday in Kirkby Mallory, it was a historic day for Kent AC, fielding the oldest team the club has entered for an event. Andrew Gardiner, Bernie Hutchinson and John Barron made up the team, scoring 12th place.
Also on Saturday, Josh Lennard-Jones took on his first trail race at The Fox 41K in Guildford, unknowingly crossing the line in first place. Congrats Josh!
It was another gold medal for Alex Yee in Cagliari this weekend after a battle with Hayden Wilde at the World Triathlon Championship Series.
Alex had the extra kick on the sprint finish, crossing the line two seconds ahead of Wilde.
Also this weekend, Nick Torry and George Russell took on the Great Manchester Run, finishing in 30:15 and 35:43 respectively
.
Up in Edinburgh, racing the marathon were Raymond Tedders finishing in 3:07:28, Rory Mahon in 3:19:49 and Lee Buchanan in 03:26:49. Kudos all!
We’re excited for summer and that also means the return of the post-track socials on the last Tuesday of each month between June and August. Join us for nibbles and refreshments, kicking off on June 25th at Ladywell.
BATONS AT THE READY
The horrid weather didn’t rain on Kent’s parade on Wednesday evening at Beckenham for the club relays, this year with batons just to make it even more challenging!
Our ladies A team took the win and four of our men’s teams scored in the top 30. A successful evening all round. You can find the full results here.
Soggy smiles
Big grins for the win
Strong finishes for Alex and Vic

A CALL FOR KENT MEN
Men of Kent: could you be a club welfare officer?
The club has vacancies within the welfare team for male welfare officers.
England Athletics recommend that clubs should have both male and female volunteers for these important roles. Currently, only Sarah Maris-Shaw and Sarah Young are on the welfare team to take the lead in safeguarding children and adults at risk (although this, of course, is everyone’s responsibility), helping to develop policy and occasionally dealing with concerns.
Welfare officers also have an interest in promoting athletes’ wellbeing, such as encouraging an understanding of mental health issues.
The role would suit someone with a children’s services background, in education, health or social care, although this is not essential. It is a great chance to make a difference in the club, (and also looks good on the cv).
Training in the role is offered by England Athletics and there will be a full handover/induction provided.
