KENT AC NEWS BULLETIN
2 June 2024
This Thursday we have the next Assembly League fixture at Crystal Palace, roaring into action at 19:30.
Then, it’s all eyes on the Dulwich Relays, SAL at Thurrock, and Catford parkrun takeover.
OPEN FOR BUSINESS
The inaugural Open championship in memory of our longstanding member Ron Hale was held at the track yesterday.
There were a number of track events – sprints, hurdles, 800m & the mile – plus the long jump, which were enthusiastically competed for by a couple of hundred athletes, many of them juniors and youths.
There were PBs galore all afternoon, and the competition was held in in a friendly atmosphere in ideal conditions.
Thanks particularly to Dan Ansell for his efficient organisation, and to all officials and helpers who made sure the event proceeded smoothly.
You can see all of the results from every event here and witness some of the action for yourself over on Instagram.

NOT IN MY BACKYARD
Away from Ladywell and right across the UK, Kent AC continued to bring the good vibes. Here is a round-up of all the weekend’s action!
At the National Athletics League, Alexa Parker nailed a PB and took the win over 3000m in 9:58. Meanwhile in the same distance but with added steeples to chase, Ian hit a post-COVID PB of 10:23.
Meanwhile up in Stoke, Owen Hind ran the 5th fastest male parkrun in the country, going for the Wammy at the Wammy parkrun, coming home in 15:30.
Over in Abersoch, Russell Bentley came 2nd in the 10km in 33:26, very closely followed by Ben Harding in 3rd in 33:48.
And if you aren’t inspired enough already, James Bates completed 49 miles of the Suffolk Backyard Ultra in 12 hours.
DWAYNE THURROCK JOHNSON
If the Ron Hale Open has got you excited for track racing, then you’ll be glad to know the next SAL is fast approaching!
It’s on Saturday 15 June in Thurrock. Take a look at the events and sign up on this spreadsheet (schedule is in the last tab).
We want to build on the success of the first fixture, and need all of your talents in order to do so. Filling events is key, so do put your name down if you see an empty spot and feel tempted.
If you have any questions, just give Sofia or Jo a shout.
TURNING CATFORD PARKRUN BLUE
On 29th June, we will be taking over Catford parkrun and filling the roster with our good selves. A sure fire way to earn a volunteer credit and a coffee afterwards!
If you’d like to volunteer for any role, please add your name to the spreadsheet below!
