TOP MARKS IN ASSEMBLY
It was a fantastic turn out at Crystal Palace for the third Assembly League of the season. Everyone agreed it was incredibly well organised, with many volunteers, great marshals and a very good briefing from the Run Director. The course was pleasantly technical and action packed, with a leg-sapping climb at the beginning, as Matthew Thomas described with some gusto:
‘Let’s be cautious, no first corner incidents…Damn! I’ve been forced into a bush…’
Luckily Matthew extricated himself and finished strongly and with some style.
Both men’s and women’s teams recorded some massively impressive results, but the evening belonged to Bryony Proctor and NicholasTorry: first woman and first man respectively. Kent AC swept the board: first women’s team ad first men’s team.

HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY
In Wales, Kent AC made an impression in a couple of legendary races. Women first: Jo Wint cantered up to Llanwrtyd Wells to take part in the annual Man v Horse race. She was a lone Kent AC wolf, among the hundreds of hopefuls chasing that horse up hill and down dale. Jo didn’t catch it, but neither did anyone else: the horse won and Jo can rest easy, knowing that running 24 miles in 4:46, with 4,500ft of climbing earns her massive kudos.
Over to the men, now, and the A team preparing for their annual Welsh Castles relay weekend. Ken has brought the provisions:
Absolutely incredible runs have been recorded over the weekend: when a runner wins a stage they get to wear the WCR version of the maillot jaune. Both Barny Day:
and Dame Dibaba achieved that
By the end of the weekend, the team had outdone all previous efforts in this extraordinary event. Coming in third place, Kent AC finished 20 minutes quicker than their winning time last year, with Stage six being about ten minutes longer. What a fantastic achievement. STRENGTH & ENDURO
Dan Pettitt was joined by a couple of club mates (Caoimhe and Richard Giles) who blew in to join him in Chicago, running the half marathon in undoubtedly world-class times
In London, Ivona Gongolova decided to express her love for Hackney’s Victoria Park by running round it to the tune of a half marathon distance. She achieved this in an impressive 1:43:14

Meanwhile, over in Wasing, near Reading, another test of endurance was played out in the Mixed Small Team category of Enduro 24; this involved Sally Urquhart, James Bates and assorted family members running through the weekend: 175 miles in 24 hours, to be precise. The team came fifth in their category, and 30th place overall out of 996. Epic!
